Art House flick. Boldly filmed in B/W. Great Scenery.

Niko turns out good for nothing. Although I identify with him to a certain extent, he's really a slacker! To be honest, this drama appear quite boring, intentionally funny at times, though. It looks like a film made by a film student.

Subtle, engaging and often quite funny.

The subtle nature of the film is lost on most who reviewed this film, on the advertising as well as in reviews. The director's interview in the extra's section explains the insights about father - son entrapment, actors that refuse good…

The main character is failing in so many ways in life, but doesn't take steps to help himself, of others around him. He is smart but doesn't do much to help anything improve. The film is beautifully shot, dialog is sensible, but I can't…

Like a ball bearing in a pinball machine, Nikko is sent careening from one encounter to another. Unappealing character meeting other unappealing characters. A couple of shots of the S Bahn, and one is “transported “ to Berlin? I think…

As a slacker/disfunctional personality movie, this one is head and shoulders above any American counterparts. Tom Schilling does a fine job portraying a layabout on the road to nowhere. I particularly liked the interaction between the star…

Good chance to practice listening to German, shots of Berlin. Some of the characters talk (appropriately) in the Berlin dialect. The reviews on the jacket of the box are a little over-the-top. I enjoyed watching it, but the story was not…

This comes as close to being a non-film as I care to see. Really I don't get the point of this young guy's odyssey through Berlin, as empty as one can imagine. I'd sort of like to meet Julika.

Headline: It's hard to get a cup of coffee in Berlin. A day in the life of a sensitive, rudderless twenty-something, beautifully played by Tom Schilling. Gorgeous black and white, great soundtrack. Warning: if you're expecting the…

I have no idea what the point of this movie was, but I felt something after it was finished. I felt very hollowed. Between the jazz music, the European setting, and the black & white colorization, I felt transported into Niko's life while…

Whimsical, ironic, understated, deep, poignant, sobering. A bona fide gem.

Wry dry wit and humor flavor this day-in-the life of Niko who seems to be under a cloud that follows him everywhere. No matter what avenue he ventures down, something is always going wrong. Loved the scene with "dear old Dad" whose…

I like most foreign films because they often introduce a different perspective. This one did just that. I never knew what to expect and what would come next which made it a bit edgy. The fact that it was in black and white gave it an…

A poignant little film which does a lot to evoke the time of life leaving the family and navigating the new economic & relationship wilderness that comes with adulthood. There's just enough honesty and vulnerability to redeem the otherwise…

In agreement with a lot of other reviewers here: slice of life, charm, real characters. It reminded me of the vulnerability of youth. It catches the turns in life that leave you alienated, but you don't quite have the resources to make…

Excellent black and white , film commentary, dark dry comedy, using one character to portray the (society) universal dwindling kindness, simplicity, and quality of life (it could take place anywhere ) statues, parks, trees, land,…

A nice little film that uses the device of 'a day in the life of a slacker' to create, through a succession of chance encounters, a personal take on the German obsession with Vergangenheitsbewältigung - and in this case no one is…

Worth seeing, with superb acting, directing and camera work. The dialogue is true, as is the portrait of an insecure young man and his acquaintances, all adrift and perilously close to some sort of emotional implosion. Perhaps that…

A sleepy, beautiful film that follows Niko, an aimless twenty-something law drop out, as he makes his way through a day in Berlin coffee by coffee.

For those who are bedridden in a hospital or in prison and don't have any alternatives, Louis L'Amour books or romance novels to read, no chick flicks, and you have to get through a few more unspecified units of time before you die, this…

I wasn't sure this film would work- but it evokes a certain charm through the aimless wanderings of it's main character- I suppose the cross- section of society the protaganist encounters is meant to represent Germany as a whole.

Shot in black-and-white and at a slow pace, the film tells of the encounters that a young slacker made over the course of 1-2 days in Berlin. He was also trying to get a coffee, but was denied multiple times. Some of the people he met…
