While not as good as her father, Anne has written a very nice supplement to his work. I do miss Joe Leaphorn, who appears mainly as a cameo or touchstone character. Perhaps his healing will allow him a greater role.

Her development of Bernadette is a nice touch, and Jim Chee continues to be a mainstay of the books. This novel, however, is not as good as her first. The story line gets a little far fetched at the end, allowing her escape. Hopefully, further development of the series will improve.

Good character development of Chee and Manuelito. And more beautiful scenery and lots of driving. Arizona and New Mexico are such huge spaces.

I'm enjoying Anne Hillerman's novels much more than I did those of her father. His were so macho, so much from a he-man perspective, that I could sometimes hardly read them. In my opinion, the quality took a huge swoop upwards when Bernadette Manuelito was added to the cast. I'm glad she has stayed, and Chee, too.

Authors should not try to continue a previously written series, especially if written by your father. I was always a Hillerman fan, the daughter not so much so-something is missing!

Tony Hillerman’s daughter continues series with Chee, Leaphorn, and Manualito. Anne Hillerman did a great job at setting the scene and the interactions between these beloved characters. I thought the mystery was a bit lackluster (as though it were an afterthought). The book was enjoyable but not compelling.

Excellent! I hope she keeps writing more.

I didn't think this was as good as her first one. It dragged a bit.. I would rate it "G"

I could not stand this book. I gave it 4 pages then I kicked it to the curb !! I really enjoyed that. ICK is too nice a description for this dribble. By the way...... I'm not sorry at all for my comments. When something stinks you gotta let people know.

Sorry, but this was just OK for me. NOT Tony Hillerman by a long way.

I've enjoyed both of Anne Hillerman's Bernadette Manuelito books. She seems to be staying true to her father's characters' attributes while expanding Bernie's character and role in the books. The books are very enjoyable. I like the way she continues weaving the Navajo traditions and culture into the story like her father did. I'm glad I don't have to say a permanent goodbye to Tony Hillerman's Navajo world and it's characters. The tradition continues.

Chee and Manuelito work independently in tis novel, setting out together for a weekend getaway when Manuelito is called home to check on her mother and Chee stays with his friend who needs help. Each pursues a case, both quite complicated. Chee works within a movie film shoot, while manuelito works a serial murder case and a burning car. Leaphorn makes brief appearances, with greater potential in the following book.
