Typical Hollywood gay themed movie with the same tragic ending as always.

I don't know what movie jmmason saw, but it wasn't the one I just viewed. Unfortunately I have yet to see "Part 1", so my prospective is lacking in comparison to those who have. However, if I were to treat "Part 2" as if it were the sole movie I still feel like I have a sense for how difficult Chris and RJ's initial one year relationship must have been for them. I, on the other hand, can imagine someone driving hundreds of miles to pursue his first true love. After all, he did break it off with a boyfriend who obviously loves him to pursue an uncertainty, with sex being a wish but I believe was more so a hope to rekindle what they had experienced 5 years earlier. With regard to the main focus of the film being on Chris, although they only briefly showed RJ's struggle to come to terms with his feelings for Paul, I felt focusing on Chris was totally the right decision by the director, in order to highlight the religious turmoil a Mormon or any devout person would have to endure dealing with his or her coming out. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy full frontal as much as the next guy but every film doesn't have to be a Shortbus for me to appreciate it as gay cinema. The hot motel scene to me was able to convey all the pent up emotions these guys most likely felt after those 5 years apart, without a need for the sex to be graphically depicted for everyone. Sometimes less is more. If only we could value a film for what it gives us, rather than what we think it should give us.

This movie is truly awful. It suffers from the "Yentel" overeach, whereas one person tries to do everything, oblivious to how tedious this endeavor is for the rest of us. It would be difficult to find one cliche' that is not in this script. In Part 1, at least we had RJ to focus on. We are not so fortunate with Chris in Part 2. I can't imagine anyone driving hundreds of miles to have sex with him. Of all the men in the film, why do we have to endure a nude shower scene with him? Apparently test audiences reported they wanted more sex and nudity. Sorry. It was too little...and too late. Chris conjured up all the scorching pathos of Patty MacCormack in "The Bad Seed." A howler of a performance. They really should have prayed longer before embarking on this terrible sequel.
