Comic books or graphic novels are most often a language of exaggeration. The Punisher tops the list for exaggerated violence and sadism. As far as I know, no one has counted and compared, but the Punisher consistently has one of the highest body counts of any book on the stands. The torture scenes are imaginative, creative and, as Marvel's classification promises, Extreme. In these stories, when torture is used to gain information, it always works, which is not what experienced interrogators report, which is that torture is largely an unreliable way to gain information. Well, realism is not the strong suit here, with gross scenes being shown on news programs which really would not have a chance of being shown. Often the high climax of the violent scenes get a full page spread. You hope no one is reading over your shoulder. If these were movies, you might switch it off if someone walked into the room. Finished the volume - now I will no doubt pick up the next volume in the series and read that.
