A tense psychological thriller that involves three boyhood friends from a working-class Irish neighborhood of Boston and a crime from the past that might possibly be connected to a recent killing. An award-winning movie directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon.

Add a CommentThe liberal Sean Penn's odious personal lack of character spoils the film
This bit of garbage proves my assertion that Sean Penn is a worthless bit of gobsmacked trash.
Read the book, the characters are fully developed. Despite some good acting we simply don't know the characters in Clint's world and the script simply doesn't flow like the book.
As a young man in the early 1960s the Mystic River name caused me to expect something other than what it was. Now, at 71 years old the same thing happened with this Clint Eastwood directed movie with the same name. A person has to suspend disbelief more than I'm accustomed to doing to give this plot any strength. The vignettes were good but the overall was lousy.
What started out as a very interesting plot, blew up in the end.
Dave who was abducted as a child grew up to be a man who was extremely disturbed, it's a shame he didn't get help after what he must've suffered.
Jimmy's daughter was murdered and everyone thought Dave was the one that killed her. I hated the end and found it to be extremely unfair.
Two spelling errors in the bio:
convict not conflict;
quiet not quite
One of the better films directed by Eastwood. Great acting by all. This is not a feel-good film and justice was mis-served in the end. Worth a watch if you like mystery and police drama.
Not at all impressed. The actors were marvellous, but the diction was awful and I could hardly hear what they were saying. Also, the content was depressing and dark.
I think this is Sean Penn's best movie. Excellent acting by all stars.
The only thing I can say is that this movie is much like real life, no one "lives happily ever after" ...
