SID SHARMA (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is an architect at a boutique architecture firm in Los Angeles. His wife, ELLIE (Cassidy Freeman), has recently moved out wanting to spend some time apart. The only reminders he has of her is her cat, MAGGIE, which he now holds hostage, and the fixer upper they bought together... which Sid still needs to fix. Left adrift in his personal life and struggling with disillusionment in his profession, Sid stumbles through his days smoking pot and having meaningless sex to fill the void. Meanwhile, ASHOK SHARMA (Roshan Seth), Sid's father and a widowed engineering professor in Boston, lives a comfortable yet lonely life buried in the world of academia. Confronted with the prospects of retirement, Ashok contemplates his own mortality and questions his life choices. When given an opportunity to accompany a colleague to LA for a conference, he declines at first, but when he sees that a speaker at the conference is a woman he shared a relationship with years ago, he changes his mind. When Ashok arrives at Sid's door in LA unannounced, Sid is taken by surprise. They have not been close since Sid's mother died and the time spent living on opposite coasts has entrenched the gulf between them. When asked about Elliot, Sid lies, telling Ashok that she's away visiting her mother. Sid awkwardly tries to make his father comfortable in his unkempt home but the only thing that bridges the distance between them is their shared passion for the game of tennis. Completely unaware of Sid's problems, Ashok attends his conference in the hopes of reuniting with HELEN WEST (Mary Steenburgen), the woman from his past. When he finally musters the courage to approach her, Helen is shocked to see him. But the twenty year gap since they last saw each other quickly recedes, revealing a reservoir of buried emotions. Sid continues on a downward spiral, lying to his father and hiding out at a local dive bar, while Ashok rekindles his relationship with Helen. Everything seems to be going well for Ashok, including forming a bond with Maggie the cat, until he discovers the truth about Sid and Elliot's marriage. Ashok takes it upon himself to help Sid move on from Elliot and re-engage with his life. They take a trip to Malibu in Ashok's rented convertible and try to reconnect in the only way they know how, through playing tennis. The getaway seems to have worked as both Ashok and Sid begin to move towards healing and renewed hope. Sid starts taking action to recover his inspiration and passion for architecture while Ashok finds his own passion in reviving Sid's barren backyard. Suddenly, while working in the garden, Ashok suffers a massive heart attack. As Sid frantically rushes him to the hospital, Ashok asks Sid to "bring her... Bring Helen." After hearing a name he hasn't heard since his youth, it's now Sid's turn to learn the truth about his father. Sid must come to terms with his father's past and the affair he once had with another woman years ago. In doing so he will discover his father's true character and learn something of his own. BRAHMIN BULLS is the story of a father and son coming together as adults on equal footing for the first time. It is a story of forgiveness and acceptance, of letting go of the past to live life fully in the present.
