At times the book can be a chore, but it's also brutal and violent and well-written. A must for anyone who wants to read more Gothic fiction or already is a Gothic fiction fan. Even by today's standards, this book is shocking.

I read this book for a first year university course. I found it fascinating and intriguing. Made me think about a lot of things, but mostly of the idea that God can forgive you for anything, just so long as you don't forsake him. A brilliant read.
