King Abdullah of Jordan Is Assassinated Ca. 1951Streaming Video - 1951
On July 21, 1951, Mustafa Ashu, a young Palestinian extremist, assassinated King Abdullah of Jordan. The Hashemite king was on his way to Friday prayers in Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque when Ashu shot him. Abdullah's leadership, while extending several decades, was increasingly controversial as he had close ties to the Israeli and British powers that were opposed by other Middle Eastern countries.
