Paris was practically perfect... Craig Carlson was the last person anyone would expect to open an American diner in Paris. He came from humble beginnings in a working-class town in Connecticut, had never worked in a restaurant, and didn't know anything about starting a brand-new business. But from his first visit to Paris, Craig knew he had found the city of his dreams, although one thing was still missing-the good ol' American breakfast he loved so much. Pancakes in Paris is the story of Craig tackling the impossible-from raising the money to fund his dream to tracking down international suppliers for "exotic" American ingredients... and even finding love along the way. His diner, Breakfast In America, is now a renowned tourist destination, and the story of how it came to be is just as delicious and satisfying as the classic breakfast that tops its menu.

If you like food, a bit of humor, and all things French and American, this will feel like sitting down for your favorite breakfast--a real comfort read. I loved this memoir.

A sweet, well-written, good-natured, lovely memoir about a love affair with food and Paris, and about going after your dreams. This is a tale of the trials and tribulations of Carlson's dream of opening a diner in the city of love.

This was wonderfully engaging; it made me smile, it made me laugh, it made me want to go back to Paris, it made me want to eat large quantities of pancakes. Craig is an endearing writer and character - it's clear he had his rough times, in his childhood and also in Paris, but he chooses to gloss over those and focus on the absurd, and his achievements, instead. From how hard it is to get a loan in France, to the wine and beer Mafia, to electricians who show up sporadically, to not being able to find proper bacon.... Craig describes all of his ups and downs while attempting to fulfil his dream.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this memoir, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!
