What did the critics see in this film? The premise, plot and world they created was INCREDIBLY interesting - and this is one of those movies that could have been GREAT, but the execution simply failed. There were just too many contradictions never resolved and too much incredibly poor film-making. Probably my biggest complaint is the quality of the film-making felt like a college school film project. There were times during some of the action sequences that you could literally tell they were just shaking the camera as two people were fighting trying to make the action feel bigger. Now, that is one of the tried and true methods of adding to a great action sequence, but it was done so poorly as an audience, you are pulled out of the film wondering why they are shaking the camera so much! Contradictions like (SPOILER ALERT) they put a guys arm out the window for a very researched specific amount of time to freeze & kill the arm (to amputate), but then (SUPER SPOILER ALERT, I'M NOT KIDDING) it turns out you could go outside after all and survive. So, hours earlier 7 seconds outside froze your limbs off, and just hours later you can walk around outside in a parka with your hood off. Typical short-comings of poorly done action films like a simple knock on the head will kill one guy, but not even knock out another, etc. Unresolved issues like that throughout the film. This felt like a really low-grade effort into a genre the director simply was not ready to take on. Looking through Bong's IMDb page, it appears that might be the case, an arthouse drama director trying to take on a sci-fi action film.
