ADWD is a great 'twin' to Feast of Crows, since the both take place at roughly the same time. The story in the books is vastly superior to the TV show in every way. My only problem with the book series at this point is that the author has taken so long to write the last two volumes that the book won't be able to garner the hype it used to. Sure, the character plots and the cast may be different, but the overall story remains the same. The big cliffhangers at the end of this book and Feast of Crows have long since been answered by the show. Reading about them in the next book won't bring the kind of surprise or elation that they otherwise would have. And that sums up my main problem with the books. The slow writing pace puts the books in danger of being reflections of the TV show, rather than the show being a reflection of the books. At this rate, GOT will end before the last 2 chapters of the book stories are ever released, and that would be a shame. The editors who worked on 'The World of Ice and Fire' with Martin did a great job. It would be great if the author allowed them to do some of the footwork to get the story finished earlier. He's said he would never do that, but minds, like release dates, can change. Oh well, there is nothing anyone can do about it but watch the show, read the short stories and wait around for it to end.
